Breast Augmentation Methods, Tips and Cautions

Breast augmentation, or augmentation mammoplasty as known in medicine, is the procedure to reshape breasts with an implant, in order to make them look fuller or “equal”. The procedure can be done alone, or as an addition to breast surgery.
Although breasts are commonly the center of female attraction, aesthetics is not always the single reason for breast augmentation surgery. Sometimes the procedure is performed on individuals who have undergone mastectomy for breast cancer treatment.

Saline Breast Implants vs. Silicone Breast Implants

Saline-filled implants are silicone shells filled with sterile saline. Some are pre-filled and some are filled during the breast operation.
Silicone gel filled implants are silicone shells filled with plastic gel (silicone). While many women say that silicone gel implants feel more like real breasts than saline implants, keep in mind that they pose a greater risk of leakage.
Both options come in different sizes and have smooth or textured shells and each has its own pros and cons, so it’s a matter of your own preference. Before the breast implant operation, you will be examined by your physician for medical evaluation and medical advice will help you make the best choice.
At this stage, you can talk to your doctor about your expectations and get the best feedback. Your surgeon may ask you to stop taking certain medications a few days or weeks before your surgery. The presence of any condition that may require you not to have surgery before the operation will be investigated, just as in all other surgical operations.
You may need to be under observation in the hospital for 1-2 days after breast enlargement, which will be applied under general anesthesia.

Recovery After Breast Implant Application

Your breasts will be covered with gauze after the operation. You may have drainage tubes that will be removed in a few days. During this period, it’s likely that you may need to wear a surgical bra.
It is recommended that you rest for a few days after your breast augmentation surgery. For example, you should not try to lift any heavy objects for up to six weeks after receiving your implants, and you should avoid movements that may cause you to exert too much effort.
Your doctor may prescribe pain medication for your pain during this period. Be sure not to use any other medication other than your prescription and to stay away from drugs that have blood thinning properties.
There will be some swelling in the area where the surgery is performed. Over time, the swelling will decrease and the scars will disappear for good.

Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation Method

One of the techniques among the breast enlargement methods is the fat transfer (fat injection) technique, also known asautologous breast augmentation. Thanks to this technique, which is getting more frequent in recent times, that can also help the problem of regional lubrication in the person’s body to some extent.
Before fat transfer procedure, sufficient amount of adipose tissue is taken from any part of the person that is rich in adipose tissue. If the individual does not have enough adipose tissue, the implant technique may be preferred instead of this technique.
Then, the removed adipose tissue is freed from its unnecessary parts by centrifugation technique and the initial material is obtained. Some additional procedures are made on this initial material to be used in the operation and then a perfect filling material is obtained from the person’s own body. This is added to the chest area with the help of small cannulas by operation.
The operation is usually performed with sedation anesthesia technique. However, it can also be applied with general anesthesia.

Period After Fat Injection Breast Augmentation

Recovery from breast fat injection surgery will be smoother when compared to implant options, but still there will be some cautions:
– Pain may be felt in the area where the adipose tissue is removed. It won’t be very intense and can be resolved with painkillers prescribed by your doctor.
– Edema, swelling, redness and bruises may occur. All these will fade away on their own after a while.
– After the operation, some fat tissue will be absorbed by your body; however, the appearance obtained after this initial absorption period, which will only last a few weeks, will be permanent.
– Activities, which may force the body like heavy exercise, intense sexual activity, lifting heavy objects should be avoided as long as your doctor advises.
